As a young adult, I moved often — college, career, marriage, kids — each transition bringing new challenges. Finding a church as a Protestant felt daunting, and life’s busyness led me to delay. I convinced myself I could be a Christian without a community, relying on podcasts during commutes and private study of books, the Bible, YouTube videos and articles. These fed my mind but left my soul restless, echoing Saint Augustine, my Confirmation Saint, whose heart wandered before finding God. For years, I carried that unease, searching for a spiritual home.
When I said “yes” to God’s call, I found the Catholic Church and Saint Isidore’s vibrant community. Joining RCIA transformed my faith. Weekly sessions and Mass dismissals sparked dynamic discussions, exceeded my expectations, and unveiled the Catholic Church’s rich blend of scripture, tradition, sacraments, and faith — a truth I sensed before RCIA and embraced fully through it.
RCIA’s moments left deep impressions. Holy Thursday’s foot-washing humbled me; I felt unworthy yet uplifted by Christ’s example. The Easter Vigil stirred my spirit with its sacred beauty. I also loved the San Damiano retreat. During breakout sessions, I connected with my sponsor, Ron, whose wisdom and faith inspired me. Our meaningful discussions — open, thoughtful — helped me unpack questions, consider my past journey and challenges, and grow closer to God. One night, we attended adoration, a quiet, powerful encounter with the Eucharist. Kneeling in that sacred space, I felt the Holy Spirit’s presence and Jesus’ love envelop me, guiding my heart to a deeper state of prayer and peace.
Beyond these moments, RCIA showed me I wasn’t alone. Lesli, Father Matthew, the presenters, sponsors, and fellow RCIA members became my spiritual community. We shared questions, reflections, and stories, guiding me back to growth. I realized, “This is why I need a church community — the Church is Christ’s body.” Scripture affirms this call to fellowship: Hebrews 10:24–25 urges us to “stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together,” while Acts 2:42–47 paints a picture of believers united in teaching, prayer, and breaking bread.
Saint Augustine wrote, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” Through Saint Isidore’s RCIA program, my heart found a home in God’s embrace. To my parish family, I’m grateful for your welcome and am inspired to walk this Catholic journey among you. Thanks be to God and the Saint Isidore Parish for guiding me to this new beginning!
