Faith Stories

Rooted and Spiritual

Fr. Matthew and St. Isidore youth traveled to Rome last summer to immerse themselves in holy places, become friends with the saints, and grow deeper in faith alongside a million young Catholics from around the world.

The biggest moments for me during the Jubilee of Young People were going to adoration, seeing Pope Leo, meeting young Catholics from different countries, and walking through the Holy Doors at the basilicas throughout Rome.

I’ve never felt like my faith was so real and universal before, because I’ve finally recognized that the Church is all around the globe. The overall vibe of the trip was great, everyone around me was so deeply rooted in their faith which helped me be even more rooted and spiritual. I believe God called me to this pilgrimage so that I could become closer to Him.

One of the most impactful parts was getting to know the saints more. For instance, learning about Carlo Acutis was meaningful since he lived so recently and was close to my age. I got to see him in person, and just this alone made holiness more visible and reminded me that the existence of saints is not something only of the past.

Overall, I’ve learned to be more patient in prayer and find peace, not rushing or seeking for answers and thanking God for everything. I am now more concentrated in my faith and growing a closer relationship with God than before this pilgrimage.

I’ve never felt like my faith was so real and universal before, because I’ve finally recognized that the Church is all around the globe.
